This bathroom, formerly dark, cramped and impractical, was in desperate need of a makeover, but its small proportions needed an expert eye. Interior architect Sally Rhys-Jones was brought in to create a modern and fresh space with a a hotel feel. Sally kept to the original layout, but modernised the space by stripping out the old shower, sink unit and 1980s tiles. A bulky and impractical extractor fan was replaced with an efficient, compact Elicent ceiling model and the window fitted with new frosted glass. Now the slimline custom-made cabinet and vanity, luxury rain shower and soft grey stone-look tiles give this tiny room a sense of space, along with modern but classic style.
With such a small area to work with, Sally opted for slimline, custom-made cabinetry. Satin-finish polyurethane in Dulux Vivid White and a Quantum Quartz benchtop in White Swirl keep the vanity sharp, while a mirrored cabinet adds a sense of space without sacrificing storage.
The Scala mixer and spout, both from Reece, were wall-mounted above the Unoceramica ‘Axa H10’ vessel sink for a fuss-free look. An LED striplight under the cabinet and downlights above the mirror provide illumination.
A rain shower and a wall-mounted flexible spray provide shower options in the walk-in wet zone. “Each shower has its own mixer so there’s no messing around with diverters,” explains Sally.
