Bathroom inspiration: Zen retreat

Lush, earthy tones and a new open layout elevate this bathroom to a resort-style sanctuary

The family bathroom in Tina’s NSW home was anything but relaxing. Dark and deteriorating with cracked tiles and tired decor, it needed drastic action, so Tina set about redesigning the entire space. “I wanted to create an airy, neutral bathroom that maintained the character of the home,” she explains.

Before and after – a serene, inviting space

A glossy white wall-hung vanity topped with hardwearing acrylic resin – check out Reece’s ‘ADP Medina’ unit for similar – sits alongside an ‘Ideal Tonic’ toilet from Reece. The dated floor tiles were replaced with chic, large-format Earp Bros ‘Tissue Silver’ porcelain tiles, which contrast with the ‘Marmi’ glazed ceramic white wall tiles, also from Earp Bros.

Once the site of the old toilet, the new walk-in shower zone exudes contemporary charm. Enveloped in Earp Bros ‘Tissue Silver’ porcelain wall and floor tiles, it overlooks the courtyard through a frosted, louvred window. The 3-star WELS rated showerhead was chosen with an eye to efficient water consumption – for similar, try Reece’s Phoenix ‘Kubus Overhead Hi Rise’ showerhead.

Serene and luxurious, Tina’s revived bathroom centres around a freestanding Reece tub that beckons long soaks. “I wanted to be able to look out onto the courtyard while relaxing in the bath,” says Tina.
