An inner-city Melbourne cafe has been given the royal treatment with a makeover inspired by Kate Middleton. Interior architecture practice Studio Tate in collaboration with graphic design studio Pop + Pac, designed the Middletown Restaurant to embody Kate and pay homage to her journey from the English countryside to British high society.
“The key design decisions were all inspired by some part of her life, whether it be a pattern derived from the cladding of her local countryside pub or the signature blue paint colour akin to Kate’s iconic navy coat”, explains Alex Hopkins, Principal Interior Designer with Studio Tate.
Terrazzo tiles in Stone Platinum and Steel from Fibonacci Stone were laid in a traditional checkerboard pattern. The warm greys and beige contrast nicely against the blue-grey tones in the tiles and help bring the space together. Alongside the terrazzo, other material choices were metal and timber.
Royal blue and crisp white are the dominant colours and help to reflect Kate’s sense of style and also keep the space feeling fresh. Accents of brass and pastel pink were also used.
