Transformed! A newly bright and beautiful living room

A few simple changes have created a user-friendly living space that sings with heritage style

Sometimes a few simple tweaks are enough to transform a space entirely, and that’s exactly what happened at this Queensland home. A set of French doors were closed off to foot traffic and the front entrance was reinvented as the main access point. This simple solution allowed for better furniture placement in the living area and paved the way for a decor refresh in a palette of black, ivory and taupe.

Classic look furniture, such as the White Furniture ‘Howard’ sofa and armchair – sourced by interior designer Tahn Scoon – and a replica Noguchi coffee table from Life Interiors, sits well with a collection of Australian antiques, including the little ‘tipple’ table (left). The Rug Establishment’s Diva ‘Audrey’ rug cements the room’s sophisticated style.

A handsome silky oak dining setting, bought for a song on Gumtree, is perfectly in keeping with the era of the 1930s home.

A custom Roman blind made from Warwick Fabrics’ ‘Miko’ in Vanish and a Rouge Living pendant from Bunnings softly brighten the stairwell.
