3 signs your vanity needs more storage

Cramped and crowded?
Simon Whitbread

If your bathroom is overflowing with all manner of detritus from your daily life, a rethink of your vanity storage might be in order.

Your bathroom plays a key role in getting ready in the morning – a challenge in itself as time is so precious. Efficiency is key to getting where you need to go.

Conversely, your bathroom is also a place to relax and unwind, pamper and prepare, soak in serenity.

With all those jobs to do, how does your vanity hold up under the pressure? Storage is the one thing we can’t have too much of in the bathroom and it starts with your vanity. Take stock and check these three signs of overload:

1. Stress sign: shelves overflowing

Have a good clear out and consider an additional, possibly freestanding shelf unit to boost your vanity storage. Try to allow a draw or shelf for each member of the household using the bathroom. If your household members exceed the shelf space, keep each person’s toiletries sorted in vanity bags – so the teen can grab the bag and his gel/orthodontics/spot treatment are all together in one bag and Mum’s NIVEA Q10 Power range is at the ready.

2. Stress sign: cupboards wont close

Do all of the items in the bathroom cupboards need to be there? Perhaps swimming towels or sunscreen can be stored elsewhere? Remove old towels to the rag bag and try rolling fresh towels when storing them for more effective use of space. Consider displaying them on open shelving elsewhere in the bathroom – perhaps there’s wall space for extra shelves?

3. Stress sign: cluttered vanity surfaces

This may indicate a system breakdown more than a storage issue. Ensure a place for everything and invest in a decorative set of cup, canister and soap dispenser to keep things streamlined.
