Your bathroom may not be the first room that comes to mind for hanging art, but it’s a great way to inject some colour and texture into a space that is often dominated by hard surfaces.
It’s also a space in which you prepare for each day ahead, so a carefully considered artwork can inspire and stimulate, or calm and focus the mind. Work to these key points and let your art take up residence to get you in the right frame of mind.
Make a statement
Hanging a much-loved piece of art in a striking colour or style can be grounding as you move through the room, and your day that follows. It’s impact may lessen over time on your own eyes but it’s effect will endure.
Keep to a style
Art is a terrific way to reinforce a decorating style in an interior scheme and doesn’t always manifest as a framed print or painting. The inclusion of vintage or antique mirrors produced or replicated in the style of the same era as your house was built will reflect its architectural bones and work with other details in the room to continue the visual story you are telling.
Have fun
It’s important to properly frame art that will be hung in your bathroom as without a proper seal the frame can be penetrated by damp and cause damage. Alternately, choose more affordable pieces that reflect current trends and embrace the fact that their lifespan may be shorter.
Colour cues
With tiles and tapware, mirrors and glass all in for the long haul as visual stimulants, look to art to inject colour, texture and movement in this room. Pick up the textures and colours in your towels and other accessories to give the piece gravitas.
