5 ways a freestanding bathtub can transform your bathroom

Don’t be shy - make a showstopping statement with your bathtub

More than simply functional, a freestanding bathtub is the new luxury statement piece for your bathroom.

Here are 5 ways to make an impact.

1. Go big – even if your space is small

Don’t let the size limitations of your bathroom hinder your choice of the biggest bath that will fill the space. Measure three times and take photos with you as you shop around – don’t give up – the bigger, the better to create that showstopper look. Remember to allow adequate space for plumbing and consider wall-mounted tapware rather than a standing filler to get centimetres back.

2. Channel your favourite spa setting

Create a sanctuary with all the trappings of a resort spa – plenty of space, storage for piles of plump towels and floor-to-ceiling luxury in mirrors, tiles or billowy curtains. Indulge in a special range of pamper products to put out for guests or enjoy yourself on your ‘spa day’.

3. Try before you buy

Yes, get into the tub in the showroom! Always a great photo op and a popular stunt on TV renovation shows but it’s essential to settle into a bathtub and try it for comfort and size before you buy and install it. People and baths come in different shapes and sizes and an uncomfortable bath is the ultimate tragedy.

4. Take in the view

Where possible position your freestanding tub to enjoy a sweeping view as you soak. If you’re lucky enough to have a view from your bathroom and privacy allows, dedicate a bay window or consider installing floor-to-ceiling glazing to take it all in.

5. Colour me happy

Beyond colour therapy, a freestanding bathtub can either contrast or compliment your bathroom colour scheme. The possibilities are endless with cast iron baths or, for a contemporary space a black bath certainly has a wow factor.
