Open plan, cute and simple, nice and natural or showstopping. Take your pick from these brilliant kitchen design ideas.
1. Blue and white
Classic chrome pendant lighting picks up the silvery tones in marble finishes on benchtops and kitchen island. Collected pieces of china and porcelain imbue character.
2. Simple and elegant
Who says grey is boring? These glass subway tiles bring a quiet elegance to the clean lines of this kitchen and echo the timber wall panelling above. Flecks of grey in the choice of benchtop and concrete flooring bring the look together but it's the timber dining table and chairs that really add character.
3. Contemporary details
Timber tones in the oversized sliding glass doors carry the eye across the dining table and chairs. Concrete pendant lights and slimline mosaic tiled splashback are simply elegant. The rug placed under the dining table absorbs sound, softens the space and demarcates the dining zone.
4. Timber with copper details
Striking black cabinetry underneath the benchtop provides a sturdy base and anchors the activity beneath soaring ceilings. Copper details in the lighting and outside in the large plant pot bring the outside in and bridge the two spaces, connecting timber, metal and the stone of the benchtops.
5. Geometric rules
The hexagonal tiles in this splashback might appear too busy in an otherwise visually crowded space. Here it works to create interest and offset the expanse of white cabinetry overhead. Brushed metal linear handles in the lower cabinetry link back to the tiles, as well as the VJ panelling elsewhere in the surrounding kitchen space.
6. Line it up
Imagine this kitchen without the addition of the chopping board and ceramics that dress it. The sharp lines of all of the surfaces of tiles, timber, lighting and cabinetry work together beautifully but it's the addition of the vignettes of daily life that make the difference here. Circular shapes in styling are key here - soft edges on ceramics, gently curved bowls and pastel colours gently ease this space to life.
7. Marble dream
This is a dramatic benchtop with heavy veining in the marble and a very thick depth which gives it added gravitas, as does the continuation of marble up the splashback and placement of the island directly in front of the bank of cabinetry. Equally striking are the smooth black pendant lights above - they provide another resting place for the eyes away from the marble and the darker tones in the appliances therefore become part of the design, rather than an interruption.
