A $5.99 Aldi wine wins Gold medal at International Wine Competition

Good news for your wallet!

If the gold medal winners at Melbourne International Wine Competition 2019 are anything to go by, you don’t need to spend a fortune on a good drop of wine.

This year’s judging panel included buyers from top retail stores, sommeliers, distributors, and importers from Australia and the greater Asia Pacific Region.

Aldi scooped a total of eight awards, including a gold medal for the $5.99 Coraggioso Nero D’Avola 2018 Sicilia DOC.

Pinot Grigio of the Year – The Pond Pinot Grigio 2019 – $6.99

Margaret River Chardonnay of the Year – A.C. Byrne Chardonnay 2018 – $9.99

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Winery of the Year – Blackstone Paddock – $17.99

In previous years, An Aldi chardonnay that cost a grand total of $14.99 won White Wine of the 2018 Western Australia Wine Show thanks to their Blackstone Paddock Limited Release Margaret River Chardonnay, 2017. It also took out two awards at the 2018 Wine Show of Western Australia- Portavin International Wine Services, White Wine of Show and The Seguin Moreau for Best Chardonnay of Show.

It turns out that you can buy Champagne taste on a beer budget.
