Artist and colour expert Annie Sloan created Chalk Paint over 25 years ago after finding that no products on the market met her criteria; she wanted quick-drying, easy to use paint that didn’t require any preparatory work.
Here are four Annie Sloan-certified steps to help you transform an old chest of drawers into a trendy vintage piece.
First off, give it a light clean and lay a plastic sheet under the chest of drawers to catch any paint drips. You are now ready to get to work; no sanding, no priming, no preparation required.
Secondly, paint the sides and top in Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan, a beautiful soft blue green shade. Let it dry (approximately 20 minutes). Simply finish with some Annie Sloan Clear wax for extra durability. Leaving the trim surround in its original timber, the drawer fronts were also painted in Duck Egg Blue and Pure White.
Lastly, finish with a gentle rub of Annie Sloan Clear Wax with an extra few coats on the top for good measure.
To create the textured look on the right, below, the old cabinet was painted in Amsterdam Green Chalk paint and paired with Graphite and Florence. It was then finished with Annie Sloan clear and black wax. The paint was applied in very thick layers and then gently sanded between coats.
