Are you getting the most out of art galleries?

This will make you smarter at art
Smartify

Ever felt lost in an art gallery without a guide? A new app is coming on line in some of the world’s best museums and galleries to act as your own digital tour guide.

If you prefer to go at your own pace or, hate walking around in a bunch, this app is for you. Smartify is a free app that leads you through a  guided tour of galleries and gives you “access to rich interpretation” of art in more than 30 of the world’s best museums and galleries.

It’s similar to what Shazam is for music, but for art, using visual cues to instantly identifying art from a growing database and delivering information across a network of international museums and galleries – all pinpointed on a map to explore from your location.

Hit the highlights only in a gallery, with a list of suggestions and create your own favourites into a personal gallery you can visit any time. Browse trending exhibition and artworks, listen to recorded interviews, explore artists, curators and venues.

“We scan artworks using photos or digital images and then create digital fingerprints of the artwork, meaning that it is reduced to a set of digital dots and lines,” co-founder Anna Lowe told Dezeen.
