A stunning French-inspired bathroom

Simple and elegant was the order for this functional bathroom which is modern yet pays respect to its heritage history

Renovating this old, heritage home came with a few problems. Namely, how to respect its past while creating a modern, functional space. Luckily for them, capturing the classic looks of the past with modern-day elegance was a breeze and the homeowners were inspired by all things French.

The couple had lots of space to play with in their upstairs ensuite – the room used to be a bedroom – so decided that a star attraction was warranted. Their choice was an elegant, cast-iron French-styled statement bath that sits centrally underneath the original window.

Plantation louvres were a chic addition, and can be closed half way for privacy. Calacatta marble floors give a dramatic contrast to the bath while the remaining fixtures are few: a classic single basin and open stand, rather than a large vanity or twin basins. All fixtures are minimal and the homeowners didn’t need much storage.
