The best how-to videos are ones that surprise and delight by making something you thought was difficult seem as easy as pie. Here, we’ve collected some of our favourite videos from teams that really know their stuff.
1. Make your own lampshade
We love Cath Kidston’s range of super-cute fabrics for just about any space, but particularly for kids’ rooms. Now, you take it that one step further by turning these bright and fun fabrics into lovely lampshades! You do need a few extra ingredients, including a lampshade kit (find a similar one here).
2. Update tired furniture
We love a good before and after project. Annie Sloan paints, stocked locally here, are perfect for quick projects because you barely need to prep a surface – a quick sand, for the fussy, will do it – to achieve a fantastic result.
3. How to fold a fitted sheet
It’s a universal truth: nobody knows how to fold a fitted sheet. Nobody! Or so we thought, until bedlinen and homewares brand Hunting For George sent us this cute video. (Warning: you’ll be singing this song all day).
4. How to paint a wall
Got the colour blues? It’s time for some DIY. Yes, it’s probably not quite as easy as it seems here but the take-out is this: with the right equipment and proper preparation, anyone can paint a wall – even you! Here’s Dulux’s step-by-step guide.
5. The art of organisation
Hear that muffled scream? That was a tired mum or dad stepping on casually discarded Lego. The first rule of home organisation: Storage. The second rule: funnily enough, it’s more storage. And the third rule? We think you can guess by now. Luckily there’s a giant Swedish mega-mall that can help you achieve domestic bliss – here’s a few tips on where and how to stash your little one’s much-loved collections.
