Tucked away down a sandy track on Victoria’s picturesque Mornington Peninsula lies this contemporary, two-storey, timber-clad home.

Breakfast bar

The cantilevered timber bench acts as both a cosy breakfast nook and a visual divider between the kitchen and living room. Timber floorboards in Aged Smoked and Limed from Royal Oak Floors flow from the floor, up the wall and across a low drop ceiling for instant wow factor. Made from reclaimed timber and amber bottles, Bonnie and Neil’s ‘Flower Mat’ is a decorative way to display fresh herbs and fragrant flowers, while an unobtrusive black wall-mounted light from Inlite brings a subtle contemporary edge. For a similar bar stool, try Stone Pony.

Kitchen

The cooking area is designed so it is only partially open to the living room, allowing lots of hiding space for kitchen mess. The galley-style kitchen features hard-wearing Caesarstone countertops in Snow, teamed with joinery finished in Dulux Whisper White. The mirrored splashback gives the illusion of added depth, while a slim built-in bookshelf is home to Debra’s much-loved cookbook collection.

Dining room

In the dining room, eyes are drawn upward to the low-hung George Nelson ‘Saucer’ pendant from Luke Furniture, which centres the space. Dining chairs in neutral linen covers from Ikea add a relaxed touch to a timber table, while an artwork by David Frazer echoes the interior colour palette.

Living room

The uninterrupted white walls act as the backdrop to the art collection. With no room left for traditional bookshelves, a clever display and drawer storage solution was devised. The low-level, six metre bank of drawers runs beneath a wall recess, which houses the extensive library. Finished in the same timber as the floorboards, the drawer and shelf unit blends effortlessly into the room. The comfy Jardan sofa has been recovered in ‘Spectrum’ fabric from Highly Sprung and teamed with a wooden coffee table from Jimmy Possum and a cane chair.

The room exudes a refined elegance, with a Freedom king-sized leather bed adorned with taupe bedlinen from Logan & Mason and a chunky cable-knit blanket from Elk Accessories. The reindeer cushion, a housewarming gift, adds a quirky touch.
