The kitchen of this 1930s semi-detached Sydney home was given a clever makeover thanks to a brilliant layout and new colour palette. The dated kitchen needed an update and the ample outdoor space presented an opportunity to extend the living and dining area. A four-metre flat-roofed brick extension was added to the rear of the house, with bi-fold doors opening onto the garden. New ceilings were installed, with a skylight in the kitchen area and downlights throughout, along with new cabinetry.
The original pine cupboards were traded for smart floor-to-ceiling cabinetry.
The new kitchen, built by Mobe Kitchens, ranges along two sides of the open-plan space and provides ample storage.
For a clean look, a Caesarstone benchtop in Ocean Foam and 2-pac cabinetry in Dulux Natural White, complete with Blum slide-out drawers were selected. A splashback of Italian porcelain tiles by Bon Ton (from De Lorenzo Tiles) adds subtle texture and pattern. The background is purposefully simple to allow the soft furnishings and other details to shine.
The cabinetry hides a multitude of tins… and even a laundry. Built-in shelves store washing liquid and things handy to have close to the garden such as mosquito repellant. A handy computer nook was added at the end of the line of cupboards.
