Beautiful garden transformation from formal to family friendly

This award-winning garden inspires a love of gardening and beckons explorers young and old

Winning an Award of Excellence in the Gardens category, Quandong Garden in the Adelaide Hills combines the best of landscape design and Australian native plants and materials.

Sitting in the Adelaide foothills, Quandong Garden has been transformed from a previously formal lawn and garden to one that invites exploration in a celebration of the art of gardening, using Australian plants and materials.

A great place to collect ideas from some of the very latest developments in garden landscape and design, the South Australian Landscape Architecture Awards are held in the interest of “Landscape Architects making positive contributions to the quality of life for all South Australians.”

Quandong Garden was selected from a range of entrants from large town parks through new and rejuvenated green spaces, to small spaces that support healing or learning.

Mature grey box trees remain with corten steel features dotted throughout the garden, linked by a series of stone and corten steel steps to lead visitors here and there to open decking.

This is a people’s garden to be enjoyed by children and grandparents over time. Designed by landscape architects, Oxigen with community engagement in mind, mature trees were retained and a series of terraced spaces are made usable with the use of stone paving, timber boardwalks and decks.
