Jardan opens new Sydney flagship store

One our most-loved Australian designers unveils a brand new interiors experience in Sydney's Paddington
Jardan

In a move that stays true to the quintessential narrative of their furniture design, the team at Jardan looked to the city of Sydney itself for inspiration – icons of design, art and architecture combined to inspire the realisation of their new flagship store.

On the site of the old Ariel Bookshop in Sydney’s Paddington, Melbourne based IF Architecture, have designed a space for Jardan to call home, with sweeping curved staircases, gentle undulations of shape and colour and plenty of natural light streaming in. Lead architect Iva Foschia says that the space reflects the Jardan values of family and colour and was inspired by the work of artists and designers Brett Whiteley, Marion Hall Best and Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy from Dinosaur Designs.

“Colour and family are big parts of the Jardan story,” lead architect Iva Faschia

HB senior stylist, Rachel Peters, was struck by the ‘wow factor’ of the newly designed space and observed the move away from neutrals to embrace a restrained colour palette, “in an understated, Jardan way.” The use of colour was integral to the design and used as a medium to transition through the space over two levels. Based on the colour systems made famous by iconic French architect, Le Corbusier, Foschia says, “We wanted to build on the existing architectural character in a way that is sensitive, contextual and unique to the area.”

Owner and founder Nick Garnham insisted HB general manager, Wendy Moore climb the sweeping pink staircase with to experience the natural light in the space on the top floor. “The light well is incredible!” says Wendy.

The store showcases beautiful room settings of the sought after Jardan furniture range and has expanded to include art and objects from the community of designers who are friends of the brand. These range from striking Dinosaur Designs pieces to custom surfboards created in tones to complement the Jardan range.
