Give your bathroom a spring clean at any time of the year.
1. Do a deep clean
Prepare a bucket of warm soapy water with a dash of peppermint or eucalyptus oil. Mop down your floors, including under and around your fixtures and into corners and behind the loo.
2. Wash your windows
With a quick wipe down of the glass and sill(s) – remember the top of the frame!
3. Get rid of clutter
Spent tubes, body wash bottles and old toothbrushes be gone! Remove any items strewn around or collecting in corners for a clean slate. Add a new cake of soap or wipe down and refill your soap pump and give the vanity a good scrub. Keep an eye out in the sales for a set of coordinated vanity accessories to create a clean new look.
4. A new set of towels
Will get you through to the summer and allow a good 3-day soak of tired ones. Even a couple of new hand towels will make a big difference if budget is tight.
5. Add a plant
Indoor plants purify the air and provide a burst of colour to a tired bathroom. Choose a hardy variety that will be happy to live in low light and install a hook to hang it from the ceiling or sit on a high shelf or cupboard to spill down.
6. Bring in a décor boost
The addition of a footstool creates a convenient perch and a decorative lift. Natural timber breaks up the hard surfaces in your bathroom space.
7. Top up your grout
As easy as a quick recolour, giving your tile grout a refresh is a brilliant way to freshen up your bathroom. Replace any broken tiles where needed.
8. Sand and paint woodwork
This pick-me-up is a little more than instant but if you set aside a weekend to address peeling window sills with a sand, undercoat and fresh coat of paint that contains a mould-inhibitor to protect against mildew stains and decay.
9. Increase your storage
Take another look at your layout and rethink your bathroom storage. Replace a smaller open shelving unit with one that has drawers or baskets to hide the clutter.
Measure the space carefully and go on the search for one that holds more by standing taller or is narrower to fit within a tricky space.
10. A new shower curtain
For a pop of colour or pattern, you can’t go past a brand new shower curtain to give your whole bathroom a lift. Buy two of the same design so you can rotate them with a soak and clean every few weeks.
