Bedroom updates to help reduce anxiety

Small changes that could help
Chris Warnes

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia. And while there are different types of anxiety and ways to manage it, upgrading your bedroom could help induce some much-need calm into your day.

Here are some proven ways to help with anxiety.

Essential oil diffuser

Studies have shown that lavender can help reduce anxiety. Try adding an oil diffuser to your bedroom and make the most of it’s calming effects.

Houseplants

Houseplants work wonders for your indoor environment. According to research, greenery not only helps to clear impurities out of the air, but can also assist in reducing anxiety.

White noise

Getting more sleep is an important anti-anxiety strategy. Many people find they sleep better with background noise, such as white noise.

In addition, a recent study out of MindLab in the UK found the song Weightless by Marconi Union resulted in a whopping 65% reduction in their participants’ overall anxiety.

ASMR

While it’s recommended that technology is banned from the bedroom, many people are experiencing benefits from watching Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) videos, claiming they help to reduce anxiety and improve sleep. Ikea has even jumped on board, creating their own oddly satisfying ad.

A quick YouTube search for ASMR will return plenty of results.
