The old adage “a place for everything and everything in its place” has never rung truer than in the space where your children learn and grow.

Teaching small people the value of tidying up and keeping their things where they can find them is an important life lesson for us all. Starting your kids on the right foot not only takes the load off you to tidy up after them, it teaches them the value of being organised.

Here are 7 ways to curb kids’ clutter:

1. Decorate

Don’t be afraid to put style first when choosing objects for storage, such as shelving, cabinetry, baskets and hooks. Good design will always win out over cheaper options and if you choose carefully, you’ll find items that are made well perform well over time.

2. Make it fun

Keep it colourful with fun choices for storage, rugs and wall décor that your child will love.

3. Consult the kids

Involve them in planning storage and how it is arranged in the room. Ask how often things are used.

4. Broaden your horizons

Not everything needs to be stored in a child’s bedroom – a play area can be established in the main living space or play room if you have one, to leave the bedroom for rest and quiet time

5. Mix it up

Keep solutions flexible so it will evolve with your child over time. Storage that is modular, stylish and will grow with your child will see it as functional furniture well into their teens

Celebrate back to school with the @oeufnyc Brooklyn Desk! We can't guarantee better grades for your child but they will love their new study area, especially if it looks anything like this one in the home of @oh.eight.oh.nine 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 * #oeuf #oeufnyc #backtoschool #holidaysover #secretlysad #brooklyn #brooklyndesk #kidsroom #instakids #kidsinterior #study #studynook #kido

6. Seek inspiration

...from your favourite kids shops, department stores and cafes, all of whom perform as high traffic areas with things being taken in and out constantly for use. Great ideas can be stolen and applied to your domestic zones.
