From the catwalk to award-winning interior designed homes, find major colour inspiration for decorating with teal.

Who knows how it all started with teal? Perhaps we can trace the colour trend back to the ubiquitous beribboned Tiffany box (nothing says luxury more when gift giving) and whilst it may have set 1000 trends, we have seen the tone deepen over time into a richer, darker hue that serves to anchor timber tones, offset metallic touches and balance masterful marble surfaces.

The good news is that, according to the LA Times teal will continue its reign in interiors into 2018 and we couldn’t be happier. A warm mix of blue and green, teal brings a moody sophistication to a space without overtaking it. Rather than a pop of colour, teal is like a great handbag or a good-looking cousin at a holiday party – subtly dresses up your appearance without taking centre stage. Your room can benefit from the addition of teal in your upholstery, cabinetry, feature tiling or architectural details.

We saw some delicious uses of teal in the rooms shortlisted in the Australian Interior Design Awards, so to tie a little teal in to your decorating scheme, look no further than these outstanding designer executions and lust-worthy decorating details.
