It’s a question that’s likely to spark a debate, but do you really need a bath in your bathroom?
For families, a bath is perfect for young children, but with the rise in apartment living, the feature might not be possible with the space you have available.
Speaking to Stuff, father of two Cameron Nicholas said he’d never buy a home without a bath again.
“It was a backbreaking nightmare, with me and my wife stooped over the shower trying to get them to stay still, one after the other or squashing them like sardines into a tiny plastic tub,” he said. “My son used to say “I wish we had a big bath.”
However, Barfoot & Thompson sales agent Kari-Lee Haldane told the publication not having one isn’t the end of the world.
“I wouldn’t worry too much if there wasn’t a bath. For smaller units that may attract a young couple or a more mature individual, a bath is not always a plus. I wouldn’t remove a bath though if the house had three bedrooms or more, as families like to have this option,” she said.
However, in an online discussion board, many believe a house without at least one tub will be hard to sell.
“I think you have to keep at least one tub in the house. I don’t think families with children would even consider a home without a tub. That is an awfully big chunk of the potential market for your home to dismiss,” one person commented.
Another added: “The rule of thumb for future resale seems to be you need a tub with shower for the kids’ bathroom, but any extra bathrooms such as a master ensuite is a personal preference.”
