Maryanne Moodie literally left part of her creative self in Brooklyn after living and working there for 4 years. On recently returning to Australia with her young family, she has established a brand new studio in Melbourne, but continues to work between the two studios.

What are you loving about living in Australia again?

Family and Mates. My friends were all having babies whilst we were away and now that we are home I get to see all the babies becoming people together!

Also just how cool Melbourne is!

What do you miss about Brooklyn?

I miss the possibility of everything. So many people and opportunities for collaborations. It was a place of real growth for my career.

What are you buying at the moment in stores?

Mostly Rose from Black Hearts and Sparrow. I love a drink in the garden with mates as the weather warms up. YUM!

What local artists are peaking your interest?

Den Holm and Bobby Clark

What’s your latest homewares best buy?

Flådis baskets from IKEA – good for storing yarn and plants as well as hauling stuff about.

What have you got in store for us?

I am busy weaving away in my beautiful new studio, creating work for collectors and exhibitions. I never have any plans apart from the next few months. I find that plans keep me focussed too far ahead and stop me from taking those interesting side paths that lead to adventure.

How easy is it to learn weaving?

It is easy to learn and hard to master. I am still learning every time I sit down to another weave.
