If your style is along the lines of minimal, coastal and refined, be inspired by the brand new Assembly Label store just opened in Sydney.

With design entrusted to local architects Christopher Glanville and Megan Burns of CM Studio, the pair worked in close collaboration with the Assembly Label team and furniture makers Mr and Mrs White to create a retail environment that evokes the feeling of a modern coastal residence.

“Drawing a direct parallel to the brand’s pared-back approach to clothing, the design uses a minimalist palette of natural materials to create an inviting and airy space that feels more like a living room than a traditional retail environment,” said Glanville.

The move to open its seventh national store in almost as many years in Paddington sits well with the brand in terms of both its ethos and company direction. “As Sydneysiders ourselves, we’re very much at home amongst the terrace lined streets, galleries, pubs and cafés in Paddington. Plus, it has a real community feel, you’re bound to run into someone you know,” said Assembly Label co-founder Damien Horan.

In a clever play on words, this is not your average footstool from the US based luxury furniture and interior designer. Handmade from shearling mink, the feet are solid brass. At a price of $7,250 from Becker Minty, you’ll need a comfortable place to sit down after shelling out for it.

5. The coolest public toilet you ever saw

If all rest stops looked like this one we’d never get to our destination!

A far cry from the dusty, gravel laybys of the Deadly Hume up and down Australia’s east coast, a popular Norwegian tourist route has been reimagined for visitors on their way to view Aurora Borealis, aka the Northern lights. Along the Helgelandskysten Norwegian Scenic Route in the northern region of Gildeskål you’ll now find this fabulous concrete structure and viewing platform at the Uredd rest area.

“The view from the steps is unique and there is ample seating well protected from traffic noise,” Steinar Skaar, route manager of Norwegian Scenic Route Helgelandskysten told Dezeen of the organic, undulating forms and subtle lighting.
