A magical outdoor retreat that brims with fairytale whimsy

Guests are happy to be led up the garden path in Kirsty and Stephen’s magical outdoor retreat. Swathed in vibrant shades of emerald and dotted with perfumed blossoms and seasonal herbs, this verdant haven in a beachside suburb of Perth radiates a sense of joy and wonder.

The olive trees provide much-needed privacy and form an important part of the bone structure of the garden.Vintage cast-iron lounges were sourced from an antique dealer in Sydney and are teamed with cushions in cheery hues from Shedwallah in Fremantle.   

Whimsical elements abound in this creative outdoor zone. Here glass jars filled with roses are suspended from a set of iron hooks on a mirrored panel near the front of the house.

After excavating the original yard and bringing in rich friable soil, four beautiful bauhinia trees were placed around the central paved terrace to create a leafy ceiling of shade above the alfresco dining and relaxation zone. Garden beds were filled with aromatic herbs (thyme, mint, parsley, basil), kale and beetroot, as well as groupings of low-maintenance fruit trees amid fragrant jasmine creepers, frangipani trees and rose bushes.

The garden is divided into three designated areas: two large planting zones that envelop a generous entertaining space. The area is designed to be a retreat for homeowners and even the pets love it.

Homeowners scoured antique stores to find beautiful pieces such as the cast-iron console table which is offset by the lush greenery. Large candles light up the beautiful plants.

Pale pink blooms, vivid greens and vintage decor add to the charm of this garden. For the family, it is their favourite place to be.
