Why Google Home Hub is the must-have smart accessory

The reasons you need one in your home

After a steady flow of leaks over the past couple of weeks, Google has officially announced the Google Home Hub at the Made by Google event in New York City.

With smart home technology coming at us from all angles, homeowners look to big names and established brands like Google to lead them through the complicated web of technology offerings on the market.

With the Google Home Hub, Google integrates all of the smart appliances in your home and does the hard work for you, so you can simply sit back and click a button to enjoy optimum automation in the home.

Google Home Hub features

The Home Hub comes with a 7” touch display, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and ambient light sensor, called Ambient EQ. The usual mute switch is also found on the back of the device, like the other family members in the Google Home product line-up.

If you already have a Google Home Mini, Google Home and Google Home Max, the Google Home Hub is designed to be the central part of your smart home. You can control compatible lights, cameras and TVs all from the dashboard on the screen.

Multiple family members can also use the Home Hub with Voice Match. This allows the Google Assistant to personalise your calendar, reminders, commute and more on the screen.

Making life easier, the Home Hub has access to thousands of recipes with step-by-step instructions, including video from YouTube, where it has been optimised to work seamlessly with your voice.

Ambient EQ fine-tunes the brightness and colours of the display based on the time of the day, while Home View provides a glance at everything that’s going on in your home.

Live Albums show up automatically on the screen as well to display your favourite memories. Machine learning will also only show the best photos, taking out blurry or low-light images from the feed.

The competition for Google Home Hub

Google’s main competition in the Smart Display category is the Amazon Echo. But unlike Amazon, Google have its own smart OS in Android and ChromeOS that are already powering multiple devices within our homes.

A day doesn’t go by where we don’t search for something on Google, which is probably connected to a Google account. Amazon don’t have the same reach with their smart assistant Alexa.

Google Assistant has proven time and time again that it’s the far superior artificial intelligence, even against Apple’s Siri – who haven’t released a Smart Display device yet.

What is Google Home Hub missing?

It’s still early days, since the device was only just announced, but like with the previous Google Home products we have very high standards of home integration.

It’s all about making your life easier when you’re at home and we can’t wait to take the Google Home Hub for a test.
