If you love the look of custom-made pieces but can’t afford high-end prices, Ikea is your designer go-to. Be inspired by these clever furniture hacks and discover how easy it is to give an everyday piece a one-of-a-kind new look.

Ikea hack 1

Kristi Murphy gave an Ikea Stockholm sideboard a mid-century modern makeover by adding gold hairpin legs and a bold geometric design. She used gold foil tape to hack the credenza. Get the DIY tutorial here.

Ikea hack 2

In this tutorial, bloggers Alice & Lois have taken a plain Ikea Skogsta wooden bench and transformed it with mudcloth upholstery into a customised piece. The Skogsta bench is no longer available at Ikea, but you could use the Norraker bench in white birch for a Scandinavian look. All you need for this DIY is foam, padding and a staple gun.

Ikea hack 3

In this hack, the designers from Avenue Design Studio have transformed an Ikea Besta cabinet into a built-in reading nook and storage space. The highly-customised space was created using multiplex plywood and leather handles. You can find similar leather handles from Made Measure in Australia.
