House Rules 2017: Sean and Ella’s favourite spaces

Here are the couple's most loved rooms from the incredible transformation

Hobart paramedics Sean and Ella had a lot to love after their new home was revealed on House Rules this week. With high praise for many of the teams, Kate and Harry’s dining area and ensuite as well as Aaron and Daniella’s kitchen were in their top three.

Kitchen

A simple and practical layout won the judges over, and the concrete bar overhanging the island helps to make the space feel much larger than it actually is. Custom cut-out handles on the cabinetry add some character to the kitchen and contribute to the industrial Scandi-style of the room.

Floorboards are Colonial Blackbutt from Carpet Court. Kitchen Benchtops are Caesarstone 5031 Statuario Maximus and Caesarstone 4003 Sleek concrete. The cabinetry is from Polytec in Polar White, Matte. All appliances from Smeg.

The up-cycled vanity unit ticks the box for industrial style in this zone – while the herringbone patterned tiles on the feature wall embrace the ‘soft pink’ rule. A matte finish on all three tile variations offers a softer, more natural modern touch and brass accents of the light and mirror add just a dash of luxury.

The tiles are Arcade Harrow in Black and White 316×316, Vast White Satin Rect 300×600, Excite Blush Matte 148×298 all from Beaumont Tiles. The metal table is from Frescatti and the tapware and fittings are from Highgrove Bathrooms – EDEN wall mixer in Matte Black, EDEN round 250mm Matte Black shower head, EDEN 400mm shower wall arm in Matte Black, TORQUAY bench mount basin in Matte Black, and EDEN tall basin mixer in Matte Black.

Dining

A coffered ceiling incorporates the ‘soft pink’ rule and helps delineate the dining area among the open plan layout. The herringbone timber feature wall adds impact. This zone also includes Kate and Harry’s winning statement piece – the light feature – which fits perfectly with the industrial-Scandi rule.

Cairo 2-step Decorative Cornice from USG Boral was used to frame the raised ceiling space. The LT Lasso Dining Chairs are from The importer and the table top is Natural Oak Ravine from Polytec.
