House Rules 2017: Tas house reveal

When Sean and Ella handed over their keys they left the other teams with five rules, these are 

1. Keep calm with an “industrial Scandi” home
2. Feature concrete and marble in the kitchen and bathroom
3. Get creative with cowhide and texture
4. Bring in soft pink and lots of greenery
5. Be bold with a big upcycled piece in each room

Kitchen

There was a lot to love about this kitchen and Wendy, House Rules judge, sang high praise for the concrete bar overhanging the island bar (Caesarstone) and cupboard (Polytec) detail. Pendants are from Beacon Lighting and stools are from Economy Warehouse. Appliances are from Smeg.

Study

With a whole room dedicated to the study, Wendy felt the space should have been more mutlifunctional. While she loved the paint colour and wall finish, the desk was too high and the artwork didn't make sense. Rug from Miss Amara, furniture from Miss Importer.

Master bedroom

The master bedroom was airy, bright and light - thanks to the 19 lights (Beacon Lighting). While it may have been a case of one too many, overall it was a beautiful bedroom loved by the judges. The high cathedral-like ceilings added depth to the room and gave it a wow-factor. The artwork (Homeroom Design) was cleverly positioned to draw attention to the ceiling too. The corner shelving was a great idea as were the wardrobe doors, bed and bench (Homeroom Design). The only downside for Wendy was the upcycled palettes as the bed base as she felt it has too many edges and opportunities to splinter.

Ensuite

The herringbone feature tile (Beaumont Tiles) wall was a great choice according to Wendy who was really impressed with the colours and patterns of the tiles, praising the teams for choosing a matte finish to bring it together. The black tapware (Highgrove Bathrooms) is a great choice, as was the recessed shelf in the shower but Wendy suggested choosing a smaller vanity to alleviate space issues.

Bonus room

The bonus room rule was to create a Scandinavian hideaway for a guest bedroom and Wendy felt renovating duo, Troy and Bec did a great job. The soft, muted colour scheme was the ideal tone for the zone and the bed was dressed beautifully. The overhead pendant light (Beacon Lighting) added texture to the space while the pendants by the bed side table added task lighting, but Wendy commented it should have been on both sides not just the one.

Dining room

There were mixed reviews for the dining space as Wendy felt it was headed in the right direction but fell flat on a few details. The table was an ideal size, but the material didn't work neither did the chairs and the rug (Featherston Interiors) was the right style but too small.

Wendy felt the feature wall didn't feel authentic but she did love the coffered ceiling as it helped to define the zone in the open-plan layout.

Lounge room

The pastel sofa (Pop and Scott) hit the Scandi rule on the head. The zone feels soft and welcoming and judges felt the sofa choice, chair (Sofas Plus) and cushions were perfect as were the planters (Kmart).

The stunning fireplace (Heffernans) was a hit for Wendy and she even commented on how well the deer worked in the space, despite not being a fan of taxidermy. Rug from Miss Amara.

Main bathroom

Wendy felt the layout was heading in the right direction but needed some tweaking, such as choosing a smaller vanity and sacrificing some of the shower space for the bath. The planter was in the wrong place as its position made it impossible to use the towel rail. The green wall was a good concept but the frame was too large and the plants artificial.
