Art is the answer! Hanging artwork in your home is the number one way to make a home look lived in and loved. It reflects your own style, personality and tells a story of who you are.

Whether your home is rented or you own it yourself, hanging art is not something you should put off until you “find the perfect piece”, but a task you should spend time on as soon as possible after you move in to create a look and feel like you’ve arrived.

But where to start? Here’s how to get it right for you.

1. Go big

Make a statement with an oversized piece of artwork – as large as your budget allows. Remember that just because it’s big, doesn’t mean it has to be expensive – an upcycled old sign, an intricate wrought iron bedhead or an heirloom mirror will all make a big impression if hung in a prominent position.

2. Go for the current trend

Including a trending style of artwork into the mix at home is a great way to update your spaces without an enormous cash outlay. Source affordable prints online, in the sale bins of interiors outlet stores or design and print your own using an online service. Mount in an affordable IKEA or Kmart frame to match your décor and it will be an instant hit.

3. Go for gold

Adding a bit of bling to your artwork will make an eye-catching piece in any room. Think outside the square and hang art in your bathroom for an unexpected style surprise or hang a salon wall in your entrance hall for an eclectic mix of your collected pieces. This will establish your personal style as soon as guests enter your home.

4. Update your art

Say goodbye to pieces you’ve had hanging for some time and replace with something new or rotate your art from room to room to mix it up. Even if you store them away to be revisited down the track, in the meantime a new view is a new you!

5. Hang only what you love

Art should mean something to you so choose colours, styles and finds that you’ve fallen in love with – if you love it, you’ll find a way to incorporate it into your decorating scheme somewhere in your home.

6. Invest for the long term

If you love it, buy it. Investing in art is something you will never regret. It also helps to support local artists – which is a good thing!
