Insider shopping secrets from an IKEA employee

Beat the queue!
Ikea

An Ikea employee has shared insider information about working for the furniture giant.

Customer service rep, Algren, started an Ask Me Anything thread on Reddit and that’s exactly what people did.

From the best time to shop at IKEA to how much of discount do staff members get, Algren’s answers are below.

When is the best time to shop at IKEA?

‘I see a lot of people coming in before the store isn’t even open to beat the rush. The funny part is that they create a rush.’ If you don’t like waiting in line, Algren says the best time to jump in the queue is 30 minutes after the store’s opening time.

Do you get a discount?

‘Yes, we do get a 15 per cent discount on everything, which includes food, furniture, orders, distributions and so on. Also, during shift time, 15 meatballs + chips(fries for you Americanos), with a salad and drink would cost us 90p which is around 1 dollar and a bit.’

How often do people come back looking for the inevitable missing screws?

‘That would be called Spare Parts, Returns deals with them and from my experience, it is somewhat often. In around 6 hours, we have 8-9 cases, which ranges from 1-3 screws to a whole bag.’

Are they forced to walk through the entire store (again) to get replacements?

‘Not in our store, as soon as you go in the store after the Welcome Host desk (the co-worker that hands out the yellow bags) there is a shortcut that takes you straight to the Customer Returns Department.’
