The 10 things we want from the new limited-edition IKEA Självständig range

Inspired by IKEA hacks, products are designed to make them your own
IKEA

The new IKEA Sjalvstandig range is on sale in October at IKEA until sold out with bright colours, quirky shapes and you can create your own IKEA hacks from the products.

Självständig, meaning independent, is the latest range to drop from IKEA. It is bold, playful and like nothing you’ve seen before.

“It’s not for everyone,” says IKEA. “We really dug into the topic of creativity and started looking at what it means to be rebellious and independent with products and home furnishing,” explains IKEA Creative Leader, Maria O’Brian.

The shapes are quirky, colours bold and décor ideas inspired. True to form, IKEA has turned our idea of interior decorating upside down to deliver the ultimate in flexibility from a range that includes:

  • modular rugs to build-your-own configuration – even go around corners!
  • click-together cushions in mix-and-match colours,
  • funky furniture legs that can be a game-changer to makeover the existing pieces in your home, and
  • a reimagining of simple, classic pieces such as paper lanterns.

The best bit? Answering their people and planet positive vision to become a fully circular business, all the textiles in this range are made of 100% more sustainable cotton. “The use of less water, fertiliser and pesticides means an increase in profit margin for our farmers, better livelihood including education for their children and reduced environmental impact,” says IKEA.

“SJÄLVSTÄNDIG is a way of expressing your identity at home. It’s about showing off your personality. I think it’s kind of what you strive for in life and in work. You typically don’t strive to be a copycat,” Maria O’Brian, IKEA Creative Leader
