Deborah Hutton has always had a thing for the Hamptons. Ever since she saw Diane Keaton’s coastal home in the movie, “Somethings Gotta Give”, with its relaxed coastal style and washed out palette of whites and weatherboards, driftwoods and sandy neutrals, she was hooked.

Her own home is by the sea in the Sydney suburb of Bronte and, having lived there for two years, the time has come for a makeover of the three-bedroom, two storey house – reimagine it as her forever home in true Hamptons style, with a nod to her grandparents’ beloved Queenslander weatherboard.

“There is something about the relaxed, casual nature of the Hamptons architecture that fits perfectly with a seaside home and our Australian lifestyle,” says Deborah. “I want to bring certain elements of that into my renovation.”

With work due to be completed later this year, and this the biggest project Deborah has ever tackled.

Deborah has created a moodboard to work with that encompasses her personal style and her Hamptons vision for her home. She has used this as a visual reference when meeting with her architects, builders and designers.

“Timber balustrades, exposed beams, tongue and groove panelling all lend their style to my Hamptons inspired coastal façade.”

“The impression you get when you see a house for the first time stays with you, so getting the exterior right is essential,” says Deborah, who plans to wrap the house in Scyon Linea weatherboard to achieve the beautiful deep shadow line look of Hamptons architecture and will stand up to the harsh coastal conditions on the North/East facing property.

First and foremost is making the most of her coastal location and achieving her desired look featuring the hallmark Hamptons muted colour palette, bright and open living spaces and deep shadow lines of Linea weatherboard cladding.
