Once a boring guest room, with the arrival of their second child, these homeowners needed an affordable bedroom makeover – fast!

Colourful and fun, three-year-old Pip’s room is anything but typical. “Instead of creating an overly girly room, I wanted this to be a timeless space with keepsakes Pip will love in the years to come,” says homeowner Martine.

An affordable bed from IKEA, some upcycled artworks from elsewhere in the home and a fresh covering of bedlinen was all that was needed to bring the space to life.

“She’ll inherit pieces I’ve cherished, like the children’s bentwood chair and the retro lamp.”

A simple clothes rack was rigged up using bright cord on a broom handle, suspended straight from the ceiling bearers. Matching coat hangers keep the look streamlined.

Little Lamb pompom garlands hang above the pine bed in Dulux Picturebook Green, while the dresser is topped with treasures including a fabric pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama and vintage shoe moulds.
