According to Home Beautiful editor Sarah Burman, the first step is ensuring you choose a console that not only fits seamlessly into your space, but also meets the specific needs of your family.
“If you have a family you might want to use a tray or bowl for keys, wallets and phones,” Sarah recommends. Positioning a designated tray on the table will minimise clutter while clearing surface space for personal touches.
For bits and bobs larger than your wallet (think umbrellas, hats and dog leads), try arranging storage baskets beneath your console. Natural wicker baskets will set the scene for a soothing haven from the moment you walk through the front door.
When it comes to style, your décor depends on the size of your console. Low shelf? Keep things simple on the surface and hang a dynamic framed artwork above to steal the show. On the other hand, a high console table allows you to get creative with valuable mementos and pot plants.
