Despite early rumours that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would move out of Nottingham Cottage and into the 21-bedroom Kensington Palace apartment next door to Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left Kensington Palace altogether, moving to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate since April, ahead of baby Archie’s birth on 6th May.

New Idea Royals Out Now

Frogmore Cottage already holds a special place in the Duke and Duchess’ heart as it was where they held their private evening wedding party and where their engagement photos were taken.

The residence was previously used to house members of the royal staff and has undergone major renovations to transform it from five separate cottages into a single family home for the family of three.

According to an earlier report from The TelegraphFrogmore Cottage was to be turned “into a family home with modern amenities,” which will reportedly include a spa, a yoga studio, and a nursery.

“It needs major building work to turn it back into a luxury family home, boasting 10 bedrooms & a new nursery plus space for a gym & yoga studio,” royal reporter Emily Andrews wrote on Twitter

Indeed, the Grade II-listed building underwent extensive refurbishment, including the replacement of ceilings and floors, rewiring and installation of gas and water mains. Whilst the public purse funded part of the renovation, New Idea reports that the Duke and Duchess themselves paid for any improvements that went beyond basic amenities.
