Michelle Bridge’s country home gets a gorgeous makeover

The Southern Highland house is simply stunning

When Michelle Bridges decided to give her beautiful country home a makeover she knew she wanted a relaxed, family-friendly feel.

She enlisted the help of Jackie Brown, a stylist for Zanui, to help her make over three spaces in her Southern Highlands weekender

“I really wanted to make sure we related the makeover to the environment with colours, tones and textures,” she told Home Beautiful exclusively.

“I wanted it to feel relaxed, not overdone and totally family friendly.”

“Outside, I really wanted to create two ‘rooms’. A dining area where friends and family can gather and feast, and then a chill out zone for a pre or post meal wine,” Jackie says.

“The outdoor area is very exposed, so this was a challenge. I selected pieces that are designed to withstand the elements – the teak table at once proving a winner, as it will actually patina and change with wear and become even more beautiful!”

“We wanted each space to feel homely and warm, and pay homage to the fact we were in the countryside without it ending up to ‘farmhouse-y’ or shabby chic.” – Jackie Brown.

For the master bedroom makeover, Jackie focussed on natural materials such as worn timbers, rattan, linen and ceramics.

“For the bedroom, I really wanted to create a space that would be deeply relaxing and fairly neutral without losing warmth,” she explains.

“I think the lovely terracotta tones work well in here, and the rustic timber bedsides and graphic artwork prevent the look from becoming too feminine.”
