The correct way to wrap your Mother’s Day gift

Simple and elegant

The adorable trend for wrapping gifts inspired by the Japanese tradition of Furoshiki (Japanese fabric wrapping) continues and we’re embracing it wholeheartedly – it’s super stylish and super easy and a great last minute gift wrap solution any time of year!

Not only does this solution avoid creating unnecessary waste, the good news is it’s so easy to achieve – simply substitute single-use wrapping paper for a beautiful piece of fabric that can be used again and again, or a tea towel that would form part of the gift.

Here’s how:

Step 1

Gather your items and gifts and lay out on a clean, flat surface. Tip: this style of wrapping works perfectly for items that also belong in the kitchen. Think a beautiful loaf of bread, a delicious bottle of wine, a cookbook or mugs.

Step 2

Lay out your tea towel and start to wrap. Ensure the design side is facing down so that it will be on show on the outside of the present.

Place your gift in the centre and carefully fold the middle section of the tea towel around the item, securing tightly with your decorative ribbon.

Step 3

Tie the loose ends off – either by tying them together in a knot or securing like a bon-bon using your string. Choose an option by looking at the amount of tea towel fabric left over after you’ve completed the first step. We recommend securing with a knot if you have a large amount of fabric left over and using string if you only have a little left.

Finish by tucking a sprig of native foliage under the ribbon or through the knot.
