In her stylish monochromatic Sydney warehouse, we sit down to chat with girl boss and entrepreneur Almira Armstrong, founder and creative director of luxury lifestyle brand Lumira, and ask what fragrance means to her, where she draws inspiration from and how to best use fragrance in the home.

“Lumira is a manifestation of my deep passion for great design and travel.” Almira Armstrong

Since her teenage years, making candles has been the passion of Almira. “One of my earliest memories as a little girl was playing with my mum’s bottles of perfume at every opportunity and as a teen I taught myself how to make candles at home,” she says.

A traveller of the world, she now takes inspiration from across the globe to bring home an array of home fragrances to transport the mind, body and soul to faraway places.

“Fragrance for me triggers the senses, a memory and even one’s emotional state,” says Almira. “It invokes warmth and familiarity so I love to burn candles that allow me to escape to somewhere I’ve been or somewhere I want to be.”

Each flavour is the manifestation of an experience and carefully blended by Almira to reflect this – a place, a moment in time. “I am deeply inspired by travel,” she says. “La Primavera for example channels springtime in San Remo. It boasts a gorgeous bouquet of jasmine, rose leaf, lily and patchouli supported by a powdery cashmere musk, creating a romantic tribute to Italy’s ‘City of Flowers’.”

“I am lucky enough to have lived in Los Angeles, New York and London throughout my career which also allowed me to travel extensively.”
