These are the colours the experts are talking about for 2019

And how to use them

Each year worldwide colour authority Pantone releases a series of colour palettes they predict will trend in fashion for the coming year. We take a look at what’s on the colour cards.

Inspired by the colours showing in the collections at New York Fashion Week, the Pantone team creates the annual Fashion Colour Trend Report. Naturally, these colours are expected to walk off the catwalk into our interiors.

Colour is already making a welcome return to our interior schemes and leading the range in the Top 12 Colour Palette are a fresh bunch that look positively primary in their feel-good brightness. With names like ‘Fiesta’, ‘Jester Red’ and Pink Peacock’, they burst off the page and into your home with fun, playful and optimistic vibes.

According to Domino the report says that, “The mindset for spring/summer 2019 reflects our desire to face the future with empowering colours that provide confidence and spirit; colour that are uplifting; joyful hues that lend themselves to playful expressionism and take us down a path of creative and unexpected combinations.”

Working with four “neutrals” as basics to build on, the colours reflect the optimism for a brighter future and encourage creativity. But incorporating such a brilliant burst might be tricky for homeowners who struggle to work with colour.

How to use them in your home

“The best way to introduce colour into your home,” says HB senior stylist Rachel Peters, “Is to use a group of colours with different variations of the same hue.”

For those more comfortable with using colour or a little more adventurous, Rachel suggests looking to the opposite side of the colour wheel to look for a complimentary colour to work with.
