Turns out you don’t need a crown to spend the night in the company of royalty. Prince Charles has opened a Scottish bed and breakfast like no other.

The Prince officially opened Granary Lodge in May, which is located within the grounds of the Castle of Mey. The castle is the former holiday home of the Queen Mother, which she painstakingly renovated and saved from ruin.

There are 10 individually styled bedrooms – two of them suits – and a drawing room with views over the Pentland Firth to Orkney. The lodge was renovated by the Prince’s Trust and the rooms are furnished with floral upholstered headboards and classically-style homewares.
