Rattan vs wicker – what’s the difference?

Rattan furniture is made from the core of the rattan plant, which grows naturally in tropical climates such as Asia, Africa and Australia and is very strong and light-weight, similar to bamboo.

Wicker is a style of weave used for baskets and furniture with origins going back to Ancient Egyptian times. It is hand-woven and can be made from natural fibres or synthetic but what we’re enjoying a renaissance of is wicker made with the outder stands of the plant that are peeled away from the rattan,
