Prada Rong Zhai flagship store

Prada’s track record of reimagining landmark buildings to base their operations in cities of taste is well known, reaching destinations as far flung as Milan, NewYork (hello undulating floor in the Guggenheim Museum), Tokyo and include an 18th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal in Venice.

The fashion giant’s newest flagship store opened in Rong Zhai, the western-style former home of a Chinese industrialist, built in the early 19th century.

The stunning 6-year restoration has preserved the history of the building faithfully and resulted in a network of spectacular interior spaces for events, showcases, and fashion shows.

While you’re there…

3. Former French Concession

This old-world neighbourhood in Shanghai was originally designated for French expats, it remains a sought after neighbourhood for expats living in Shanghai from all over the world. Unexpected in its European inspired architecture, it comprises a series of tree-lined streets with tudor houses, hip cafes, concept bars and breweries. An escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, experience a relaxed, calm feeling as you wander avenues, shop art in galleries and browse antique stores.

4. Ultra Violet by Paul Pairet

Already channeling Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2018, avant-garde restaurant Ultra Violet by Paul Pairet is bang on trend with both its dramatic interiors and awe-inspiring food, offering a “Turbulent, unpredictable, unconventional” dining experience from the French-born, globe-trotting chef. Over 15 years in the making (and closer to 15,000 emails, up to 50,000 cigarettes and 8,000 double espressos consumed, he says) Pairet has created his dream kitchen and wrapped it in an audio visual experience like no other, to deliver that dream in multi-sensory form… on a plate.
