As the summer months seem to extend further into Autumn each year, the argument for installing a pool in your backyard is gaining weight, but the outlay is not getting any easier on the pocket.
With the price tag of a fibreglass pool sitting somewhere over $50,000 and concrete in the $100,000s, people have cut to the chase and are creating a simple DIY solution that’s gaining quite a following to beat the summer heat; the stock tank pool.
Designed for use on farms to hold water for feeding livestock, these metal tanks are galvanized against rust and corrosion and designed to hold water so with the addition of a small pool pump to filter the water, they are being adopted in back yards everywhere.
Painted or plain, the metallic finish lends a nice industrial-style aesthetic to build from, making a statement in the modern outdoor entertaining area. A little flattened earth underneath and/or sunken into the ground, whilst not really conducive to lap training, a stock tank pool still offers maximum benefit in the form of a cool dip. The small size brings a level of intimacy and a lot of fun for young and old.
It should be noted however that these tanks are not designed to be swimming pools and their installation and use as such does not comply with Australian Standard safety requirements for installing a pool at home.
