Kitchen connection

Not only does this minutely detailed, Hamptons-style kitchen play a starring role in this gorgeous Sydney home, it also has its roots in Hollywood. Every door, handle, tap and cupboard was purchased from Chicago-based kitchen designers O’Brien Harris, who created a nearly identical kitchen for the set of the blockbuster Something’s Gotta Give. Positioned to the rear of the home, between a light-filled internal courtyard, dining space and a lower lounge, the kitchen sets the style tones for the renovated home.

Fabulous finishes

Dashing from feature to finish – the thick timber cupboards, double-lined Perrin & Rowe sink, the stunning dovetail drawer joints – this is a kitchen with serious style cred. Original Kauri floorboards, painted a deep rich brown, form the base notes of the classic palette.

Cool cooker

A commercial-style cooker forms a focal point in one area of the kitchen, and storage abounds: drawers slide open effortlessly, and separate bread and fruit compartments are hidden away to create a streamlined working and entertaining space.

Dining delight

In the dining area, a handsome oval-shaped table overlooks the home's leafy internal courtyard, and is grounded by a traditional rug in rich red, warming tones.

Luxe living

A vivid artwork, Melissa Egan’s Garden Party, sets the colour scheme for the cosy living room. A large, comfortable couch – Freedom's Aspect sofa is similar – tones with the walls, painted in double-strength Resene Linen.

Powder room perfection

The home has three striking bathrooms; in the downstairs powder room, the conventional Hamptons look has been flipped by tiling the bottom of the walls and installing white tongue-and-groove panelling above. On the floor, timber-look ‘Bar Gris’ tiles from The Art Of Tiles add another layer of interest.

On the rise

A cosy nook under the stairs serves as a reading spot, warmed by a Cadrys rug. Classic panelling adds character and mimics the angle of the staircase.

Cath Muscat

Dream zone

Natural textures warm the main bedroom, thanks to Roman blinds in Boyac linen, a sisal floorcovering and a rattan trunk – Early Settler carries similar designs. Pretty linen ruffle cushions from Aura By Tracie Ellis embellish simple white Sheridan bedlinen.

Suite surprise

At the side of the bedroom, a sliding window opens up onto the ensuite, giving both rooms a sense of space. Beyond, built-in wardrobes are ranged along the upstairs hallway, with linen panels instead of timber allowing air to circulate among the contents. On the floor, Tuscan Shabha woven sisal carpet from International Floorcoverings Australia adds texture.

Cath Muscat

Bathing beauty

White subway Natura tiles from The Art Of Tiles bring elegance and texture to the walls of the ensuite. The recessed shower and toilet are hidden from view from the entrance to the bathroom. Rolls of white Sheridan towels dress up the chic vanity; for similar, check out French Dressing’s ‘East Hampton’ design.

Be my guest

Sumptuous tones make guests feel very welcome in this lovely room. An Aboriginal artwork pops against the walls in Resene Napa, while pewter bedlinen and steel grey cushions from Aura By Tracie Ellis add sophistication. Tongue-and-groove panelling on the walls continues the home’s subtle Hamptons vibe.

Cath Muscat

Dark horizons

Brodware ‘Neu England’ tapware and Natura ‘Sisal’ wall tiles from The Art Of Tiles create a look with timeless appeal in the guest ensuite.
