Project 1: Driftwood planter
You will need:
• Discarded tree branch
• Potting mix suitable for succulents
• Netting, if required
• Succulents
Note: Branches with small hollows are ideal as you can tuck in little plants neatly. Succulents need only a light mist of water every now and then.
Method:
1. Add potting mix to hollows in branch. If your log has a hole all the way through, use a little netting to retain the soil.
2. Arrange succulents in their pots at varying heights to see how they will sit in the planter. Have taller types shadowing smaller, as well as low-covering ones to create interest. Then plant them directly in the soil.

Project 2: Log side table
You will need:
• Log
• Four caster wheels
• Drill
• Phillips head screws, minimum 40mm
Note: This handy little side table can be adapted to logs of any size, and its wheels make it instantly portable. Tara prefers them natural, but for a fresh idea, add a splash of paint to colour the top.
Method:
1. Flip the log over so the bottom side is upright.
2. Using a tape measure, divide the log in half and note placement for two of the caster wheels by marking the holes with a pencil. Divide the log again at 90 degrees and mark holes for remaining two caster wheels, so the four caster wheels will be equal distant apart.
3. Using a drill bit slightly smaller than the gauge (or diameter) of screws, drill clearance holes at marks.
4. Place caster wheels over the clearance holes and fix to log using drill with a Phillips head screw bit. Turn the log upright.
