This arty hotel is one of the coolest places to stay in Dublin

A boutique hotel in the heart of the city

Nestled in a Georgian terrace in the heart of Dublin city centre, The Dean is an art-filled boutique hotel with a cool, yet cosy vibe.

This quirky hotel opened in 2015 and was the first hotel to have been built in the capital in four years.

The Dean is smack bang in the heart of the city centre on Harcourt Street, just footsteps away from Stephen’s Green and Grafton Street, the city’s premier shopping spot.

But while the city is on your doorstep, the hotel is so welcoming that once you’ve checked in, you may find it hard to leave.

There’s a wide range of options when it comes to rooms, from the budget Modpod and Punkbunk rooms, to the sprawling Penthouse suite and Loft which comes complete with a Ploum sofa, Samsung Smart TV, small bar and Foosball table.

Regardless of your budget, however, every room is filled with the kind of thoughtful details that guests love so much in a hotel; retro record players and vinyl, TV with Netflix, Nespresso Coffee Machines & Pods, fully stocked SMEG fridges, rainfall showers in the ensuite bathrooms and grooming products from the Grafton Barbers.

The Dean Bar in the hotel foyer is a great spot for a pre-dinner cocktail or an early morning coffee, and is adjacent to a large co-working/play table. There’s also a small plant-filled courtyard garden for relaxing with a drink on warm evenings.

Sophie’s is the in-house restaurant which is located on the top floor and offers impressive 360 degree views of Dublin city. There’s something for everyone on the menu, from pasta and wood-fired pizza to fresh fish and juicy steaks. Don’t forget to take a snap at the infamous swings by the lifts too.

As an art hotel, The Dean prides itself on it’s in-house art collection, which features original works from over 40 Irish artists. Curated by James Earley, the collection features works from Me&Him&You, Eoin Holland, Mark Francis, Richard Gorman, Patrick Scott and Samuel Walsh, to name just a few.

“The Dean’s art collection represents a snap shot in creative time within Ireland,” James says.

“All artistic disciplines are celebrated: fine arts (painting, print, photography, sculpture), as well applied arts (graphic design, industrial design, illustration).”

“Up and coming talent shares wall space with established artists. With over 40 artists and 250+ artworks, it is a collection that truly represents the past, present and future in Dublin’s visual arts community.”
