Time to reinvent a classic family living room?

We loved seeing Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic New York apartment redecorated by design company Modsy. Seeing the room transformed to the current day, and again in different styles inspired by her Sex and the City gal pals Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda is so inspiring! It’s a great exercise in just how far interior decorating can take us towards expressing our own personal style through interior design.

The latest example of this concept at work is via US-based home improvement website Home Advisor, who has taken on a reimagining of The Simpson’s living room décor.

The cartoon family has been a household name for over 30 years and their living room features in the opening credits of every episode. It shows how a family’s home anchors and if you like defines them. From an interior decorating perspective, the exercise demonstrates just how your own living room space can be morphed into something new and exciting, with a few tweaks of the styling brush and a keen eye for sticking to a decorating style.

Here are the results:

Industrial

This might make sense if Homer found himself at the helm of the moodboard, as he works in a nuclear power plant. Industrial might just be his ideal decorating jam.

Coastal

Closer to home, this might be a style many Australians can relate to – a classic mix of beachy blues and white-washed timbers… ‘Homer does The Hamptons’, perhaps.

Bohemian

We think Lisa would embrace this style, with her altruistic outlook and moody jazz vibes. An eclectic mix of colours with plenty of texture and pattern.

Shabby Chic

Frankly we can’t get our heads around this for any of the Simpsons family – it’s kind of eclectic but we love how it looks and fans of the 1970s decorating revival need that rug in your lives, stat!

Hollywood regency

We can see Marge embracing this style – she’s often dreaming of a life reimagined and we can see her falling under the spell of a bit of Holly glamour.

Mid-century modern

If you pare things back a little from the cartoon, this style is probably the closest to their own lounge room as we know it. Mid-century design is timeless after all and perhaps this is why we’re all embracing this style in interiors right now.
