A Japanese artist has taken edible art to a new level with a series of intricately carved food on Instagram.

Gaku shares his meticulous take on mukimono, the traditional Japanese craft, with 147k Instagram followers.

He uses a variety of fruit and vegetables, including avocados, apples and broccoli, to create his detailed masterpieces.

Each piece is essentially a race against time, as the oxidization process kicks in and turns the food brown.

According to Spoon and Tomago, each work is created using a sharp blade that resembles a craft knife.

There is no need to worry about food wastage as Gaku claims that he eats all of his artworks. “Except for the banana peel.”

You can see more of Gaku’s masterpieces on his instagram account.
