These 3 easy trends will be taking over interiors in 2019

How to recreate them at home - by Laura Barry

These 3 easy trends will be taking over interiors in 2019

They say change is as good as a holiday and nowhere is that truer than within the home. A room that once felt tired and dated can be totally rejuvenated just by moving the furniture, changing the cushions and maybe throwing a coat of paint on the walls. A refreshed home is the perfect environment for refreshing your mind.

There are three interior trends which have recently taken off and are experiencing a surge in popularity across retailers and social media. We asked Temple & Webster stylist Allira Bell to tell us the biggest trends she has seen take off in 2019, and the best part is they’re super easy to integrate into your home.

1. Dusty pastels

Allira says there are two prominent colour trends appearing this year: pastels that are mature and subtle, and colours that are rich and saturated.
“These pastels aren’t sugary and sickly sweet, they are deep shades that are a little muddy and can easily live anywhere in your home. For inspiration just look to nature, such as misty grey, mellow mustards and dusty apricots. These tonally quiet colours sing out when paired with deep colours like cocoa and burgundy, grounding the interior scene and keeping the scheme interesting. Black is also back and adds punch to how we will play with colours this year.”

Try: an art print for your wall, cushions, bedding, throw blankets, rugs and towels.

Take it further: Give your room a new look with a coat of paint.

We love a sunburnt country 🌞so much so that we've curated this gorgeously weathered collection in honour of its earthy hues

2. Rounded shapes

The latest furniture trends mean we won’t have to sacrifice comfort for style, because furniture and decor are heading towards rounded and irregular shapes.

“Think lushly stuffed armchairs that beg you to sit in them, low-line sofas, and vases that make you look twice because of their unexpected shapes. Highlight the artful shapes and interesting curves by embracing minimalism, reduce the clutter and let the sculptural pieces shine.”

Try: trinkets, trays, rugs and other ornamental items with a circular shapes.

Take it further: Look for furniture with soft shapes and rounded edges.

Make a statement with this stylish quilted velvet Olivia armchair and ottoman, available in 4 new colours for under $399. Not your style? Don't worry, we've got over 400 armchair and ottoman designs for any taste

3. Maximalist texture

A home that has lots of layers and texture is at the forefront of styling in 2019.
“We will continue to see understated veined marble but also learn to fully appreciate statement hues and larger stone patterns. For the ultimate maximalist styling approach, play up the textures and patterns and contrast them with other raw elements like rattan, clay and unfinished timber.”

Try: add layers to each room by incorporating lots of different textures such as knits, crochet, leather, linen, linen bedding, woven baskets and lighting.

Take it further: Look for furniture made of timber, leather or woven rattan. Add a pendant light in a a touchable fabric to the room. Add a jute or sisal rug. Go for lots of colour, pattern and texture.

Choose timber, natural decor and an understated flatweave rug for a space you'll love to dine in
